Shoe Makeover

I have had these shoes for a couple of years and they started to look really ratty.  My big toe nails had cut holes in the toe of the shoe and it looked really bad.  I had seen the idea of covering them with fabric on pinterest and I didn't have a pair of good school shoes anymore so I thought, why not.

First I cut a circle out of a scrap piece of fabric to sew on the inside so I couldn't still feel the hole with my toe and to keep in from ripping again.  I kind of just sewed it wherever just to make sure it was good and stuck.

Ta da!

For the fabric I just eyeballed how big of a rectangle I would need hemmed one of the longer ends and then pinned it in place while I traced where it would meet the sole of the shoe.  I just wanted it to come up to the stitching that you can see in the picture above.

Then I folded it on the red line and pinned it like every half inch (I didn't take pictures).  I sewed around the edge and then, very tediously, hand stitched around the fabric doing my own kind of whip stitch thing to sew it to the shoe.

Yeah I know it's fraying on the corner there but I'm planning to fix that.

I think they turned out really cute.  I was thinking of either sewing or gluing some baker's twine around the base to fill in the crack between the new fabric and the sole.  I was thinking red and white, gray, or navy blue.   What do you think?

Doll #2

Here is my next doll.  I forgot to take a before picture, but you probably know what a Bratz doll looks anyway.  Her top lip is crooked but I don't care.  Her dress is just a barbie dress but I'll probably end up making a new outfit.

I did end up repainting the lips on on the red headed girl.  I think they look better, but neither of the dolls look like they're smiling.  I guess I'll just have to practice.

The two dolls together remind me of Ann Shirley and Diana Berry.

Luscious lips...

This is my latest project.  I "made under" a Bratz doll!

My sister and I saw online, a lady that "made under" bratz dolls.  It was really cool and it made them look so much better and cute, so we tried it!  We just ordered four used dolls off of ebay and they came last night.  I really wanted to get going and ended up painting the face of one of the dolls before going to bed.  I painted another today but I'm not quite finished so I'll post that one later (maybe).  I think I'll repaint her lips because they are too purple for me, and I think she needs a bigger top lip.  I also don't really like the color of her eyes.  Just looking at the paint in the bottle (I used craft paint) it looked more sage colored, but when I painted it on, it ended up looking more like John Deere green.  Oh well, I like them anyway.

I made the shoes out of silicone and corn starch from the tutorial here, and I really like them.  They can come off and everything!
Anyway,  there 'tis.

Peter

I finished Peter!  I really like how he turned out.  On my last post I did a painting of Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and their mother.  On that one I outlined everything with a dark brown colored pencil which worked pretty well but, on this one, I outlined it with paint and I like it a lot better.  I realize that it's not exactly the same as the original but I like it.

Beatrix Potter

For an art class sort of thing that I'm taking I chose nine artists that I would like to learn about and then copy some of their work.  The first one I chose was Beatrix Potter.  I love her art!

This is the painting I chose.  I really enjoyed painting it. This is the original.  Sorry for the lack of picture quality.  I had been painting outside so it was on a clip board.  That's what the shadow is at the top.  I also was testing pens and pencils around the outside so that's what all the little marks are around the edge.

For some reason this picture turned sideways when I uploaded it to my blog and I can't figure out why or how to fix it.  But anyways, this is the sketch.

This is after I painted it.  I forgot to take a picture before I outlined the mamma rabbit but you get the idea.

This is the finished product.  I think it turned out really cute.  You may be wondering where Peter Rabbit went in my picture.  Well I painted this on a  4 x 4 1/2 inch piece of paper and he wouldn't fit.  I'm planning on doing him on a separate paper in the near future.

Renewed

My name is Jenny and this is my blog. Just pretend that the first part of it doesn't exist.  It was originally used for a Fitness for Life class, so it's pretty boring and should therefore be avoided.  This blog, from now on, is just for random stuff that I feel like posting.  That may include art projects, craftiness, maybe photography, random things about my life, and family, etc.
Watch out for my next post about a watercolor painting I copied from Beatrix Potter's book, "Peter Rabbit".

Reflection

I think the main thing I've learned is how to keep my goals.  I got behind a few times but that was just on the computer work.  In exercising I stayed very consistent.
I really like having a routine that I follow every day.  It made my day go smoother.
I have actually enjoyed running every day.  It kind of gives me a break from school. It gets me moving and awake.  I really liked it.
My main goal was to gain weight, which I did, a little.  I need to continue to work on it though.

I think I will continue to run every day.  It was actually fun.  I don't know if I will continue my whole fitness plan, mainly just the running and a pull-up here and there. :)
