BMI

It said I was under weight.  But I already knew that.  I probably won't do anything about it because I will eventually gain weight.  But if I were going to gain weight I would just eat more.

Week three blog report: Flexibility

Static vs. ballistic stretching- Static stretching is a slow stretch that you hold for a certain duration.  Ballistic stretching is like a bullet, short and quick.

Joint variations- I could only find an algebra answer when I Googled it.  And there are no J's in the glossary.

I need to make sure that when I stretch, I do it slowly and not quick because that could damage my muscles.

Muscular endurance

High repetitions and low resistance- I cannot find an answer in the glossary or in Google.  All there is, is high resistance and low repetitions.

Sport specificity- The similarity between mechanical training activity and the actual sport.  For example, if you were training for soccer you would practice kicking the ball.

Work rest ratio- It's the ratio to the amount of rest and exercise.  For example, if the work rest ratio was 1:2 and you were running you would run one distance and then rest/walk twice that distance.

When I start exercising regularly my work rest ratio will be about equal.  As I improve, my ratio will change for the better.

Word definitions

Isotonic- When the muscles change in length as they lift or lower something.

Isometric- When the muscles exert force but don't change in length that you can see.

Isokinetic- Exercise where you are moving consistently and you still have to put forth all your strength.

The overload principle- When you want your muscles to be stronger, you work them harder than they're used to.  Your muscles will slowly get used to the extra stress and they grow stronger.

The work/rest ratio- I couldn't find the definition in the glossary, so I looked it up, but I still couldn't find anything.

This helps me to know that it's going to take some effort.  Like in the overload principle where you have to work your muscles more to make them stronger.

Fitness results

I weigh 96 lbs.  I'm pretty happy with my weight, but I bet I could gain a few lbs.
My results for the fitness test were:

Curl ups-31
V-sit reach- To the line
Shuttle run-12.1 seconds
Pull-ups/push-ups-0
Endurance run/walk- 14 minutes and 43 seconds

The hardest one was probably the push-ups, because obviously I couldn't do one.  Well I can kind of do one but it isn't quite the right way.  I couldn't do it to the beat that was given.  The easiest ones were probably the curl ups, the shuttle run, and the v-sit reach.  I want to get in shape, and to improve my time for a mile long run/walk.  So I'll try to walk/run at least three times a week.

Fitness in my life

When I hear the word "fitness" I think of people staying fit.  So that would be:  going to the gym, walking, going on a bike ride, and doing pullups, situps, pushups, lifting weights, and things like that.
Also I think food is definitely part of staying fit.  These are some of the things I've heard about eating healthy:  Don't eat until you're full, eat until you're satisfied. You do not need a lot of sugar.  Every once in a while sugar is fine but constantly eating candy is horrible.  Highly processed foods clog up your system. Eat your green vegetables. ( I know that's what everyone says but it's true.) There are lots of vitamins and minerals in them. They're Organic! They're medicine that prevents sickness.  And some of them taste pretty good.  Also getting enough sleep is very important.

If you're fit you'll be happy!  Who doesn't want to be happy?  You'll feel great, and have enough energy to do your daily tasks.  And the list goes on!

Hello

Hi, My name is Jenny and here I am!

I've been home-schooled all my life.  As you can see from the title I like to make jewelery and I also sell it, I like doing crafts, sketching, painting, and playing my violin.  This is my first year with "Williamsburg Academy."  I don't know much about this class so I'm not really that exited or nervous for it.  I'm pretty much just taking it so that I can graduate high school.  Even though I'm not that exited for this class I do hope I can get all I can out of it.  I hope I do well.
